Healthcare students need a new alternative way to practice procedures in order to be more confident and get enough skills to do it on real patients. Mobile simulations can be the solution to improve medical training, offering them an easy, accessible, affordable and more immersive way to improve their skills, using their smartphones, via augmented and virtual reality.

Rodrigo Dias Takase is graduated in Computer Engineering at University of Campinas – Brazil, and was interested in game developing since his childhood. He has been working with educational software since 2007 at the Educational Technology Laboratory at the University of Campinas and he is also an instructor of two iOS development courses on Coursera. His Dental Simulator project was one of the winners of International Creative Challenge 2016. His fields of research and expertises are: iOS and mobile development, entrepreneurship, design, medical and educational software, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality.

The Impact of Residential Schools on Aboriginal Healthcare | Dawn Tisdale | TEDxComoxValley

Dawn talks about residential schools and their impact on the people and their family’s who were involved. She passionately makes a plea for a link between what residential school survivors experienced, and how their future healthcare needs have to match the impacts of that experience.

Dawn Tisdale is a third year student obtaining her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at North Island College. Dawn grew up in Montreal, moved to the island in 2000, and became a community support worker for adults with disabilities. Wanting to further explore her career in health care, she decided to go back to school to become an RN. Since entering the BSN program, Dawn has become extremely passionate about nursing – aboriginal health, in particular. What fuels her fire is social justice and advocacy for health promotion.

Dawn was recently elected president of the Canadian Nursing Student Association, representing 28,000 nursing students across Canada.

How to Build a Healthcare Startup

I’m going to show you the entire process I used to conceive, design, and build the prototype for a healthcare startup business! This app is called “Macy”, your personal Yoga Instructor. It uses a machine learning model called PoseNet to detect human poses and overlay a skeleton stick figure on top. I retrained posenet on labeled Yoga poses images so it could detect when a person correctly performs a certain pose, then i used speech generation to have the Flutter app guide your actions from pose to pose, just as a real Yoga instructor would do. The goal is to help a user reduce stress, anxiety, and depression through a series of guide meditative poses. I’ve integrated a subscription service and some interesting design schemes, but the app isn’t finished! There is still more to do. The point is to give you the starting template to start your own profitable business. Enjoy!

Healthcare Data

I recently flew to Singapore to give a keynote on AI in healthcare and attend a panel discussion on the same topic hosted by School of AI and sponsored by Accenture. School of AI is a nonprofit with a goal of giving everyone on Earth a world-class AI education for free. This was a launch event for our first global hackathon called Health Hack that will be hosted in over 30 cities around the world by our Deans (community representatives). In this video, you’ll learn about automated diagnostics, synthetic biology, drug discovery, and the ethical implications of AI. Enjoy!

First-Hand Look at Health Care Careers

Nearly 150 Bay Area high school and community college students aspiring to careers in health got a glimpse of the wide array of jobs in health care during a day-long Kaiser Permanente-sponsored Youth Career Day at Kaiser Permanente’s Garfield Innovation Center. The students and teachers came from health career preparatory programs at 8 schools and organizations around the Bay Area and Sacramento, including Oakland’s Technical High School Health Academy, Sacramento’s Health Professions High School, Contra Costa Community College, and First Place for Youth. Kaiser Permanente created the hands-on program to introduce a diverse group of young people to health careers they may not know exist. The program also provided students and instructors with guidance on what education they would need for a given career, and how to find financial aid and support services to help get there.
